Covered in Glitter

Hey Hotties.

I was busy with life but I'm back. I had some artist's block and was being angsty so I was away for a while, but I came to my senses eventually. Here's what I've been doing recently:

This is how I feel sometimes. I should probably find more hobbies or more pigeons to glare at when I'm walking around the city streets. I drew a picture with children's crayons and sharpie markers, and then I used Photoshop.

I take the train a lot, so I see this all the time. Train tracks would be better if they were pink and covered in glitter. Drawing + Photoshop Layers of Flavor.

A graphic I made for an upcoming blog post that I'm writing for my social media job. It's basically about the things you shouldn't do on social media if you want your company to be cute.

Maybe you were partially entertained.
See you next week!

My NYC Showcase Adventure

Hey Hotties.
Me w/ my art at the RAW NYC Panorama Showcase, at The Cutting Room in NYC

Wanted to tell you about the art from my RAW Showcase in a way that doesn't suck. Before I get into the artwork I will say that an artist from France asked me for a french kiss, and that someone was topless in the fashion show (was intentional). Anyway, I showed 7 pieces:

"Starbucks" 2014, Mixed Media.

Drink too much coffee so I drew Starbucks, and then I thought why not spill actual coffee on it since I'm such a cool and forward-thinking hipster.

Also gave the Starbucks girl a makeover. Since I think I know what's best for her, I gave her glitter shades to complement the Topless Starbucks Hottie that she is.

Someone bought this, it didn't take long to make so I figured $20 was okay. If you like this or any of my other stuff send me an email at dliciw@gmail.com and I'll make one for your special self.

"Starry Eyed" 2012, Acrylic Paint.

This is a painting I made in college, when the most important thing in life was passing my exams and wearing the best outfit to a themed frat party.

I was in love or something, and also like the colors blue and purple, so I made this for an art class assignment. No, I am not in love with this person anymore. He probably isn't reading this. If I'm wrong, nothing will happen and I will probably take another nap.

"Rose" 2014, Mixed Media

An idea I came up with when I was playing a drinking game with my sister. I decided that rose petals should be on street lamps because that's how crazy people think.

"Bicycle" 2007-2014, Mixed Media

You may have seen this bicycle before if you've read my blog in the past. I've been adding to this collage for 30 years. Before my show I added white paint on the bottom because I was bored. Guess it looks like baby snow.

"Swirlie" 2014, Mixed Media.
This is the final version of a swirlie I've been drawing for a few months.
Probably the cutest it's ever going to get.

"Underwater" 2014, Mixed Media.
The word "soul" is underwater since I think a person's true self takes time to discover and is buried under the surface like an ice berg.

The pink boat is the Titanic's cuter sister that didn't sink and has free Happy Hour Fireball Shots at the bar.

"The Subway" 2014, Mixed Media.
And this is the last one. I sold 4 of these because I guess people like flowers
and the train conductor's sexy voice. I take the subway a lot
and I wanted to illustrate my experience as a freaking commuter.

So I was excited and honored to have a show in NYC and it went way better than my first one last summer. If you want to look at my artist profile from the company that ran the show, you can do that here

Next time I post here I'll share what else I draw/paint that doesn't suck.

Have a nice week and stuff.

Another World

Hey cuties.

I've been spending a lot of time getting ready for my group art show. It's in 11 days and I just ordered some lights for my work on Amazon. I'm so nervous that I'm not nervous at all. How about that.

Here are some of my works in progress:

That same damn Swirlie is in Phase 4 now.
It's been swirling around since February...

And I've also done some more work on the rose streetlamp from last time.
I think it's cuter now.

First Drawing

Well, I'm going back to my pretentious studio now.
See you next week.

More Drawing

It's been a while since I've posted. I was busy with life and it's many miracles.

On the bright side I've been chosen for a group showcase for RAW Artists in NYC, it's on June 27th from 7pm-1am. Hundreds will be there, my manager says. You can check out my RAW Artist Profile if you want. Tickets are $15. I'll make a Facebook event.

Anyway...
I drew a "rose street lamp" and thought it was a
great idea for the next huge electronic thing in New York City.
Drawing with beer, then Photoshop Magic.

3 weeks and I'm still not finished with this next one.

I got so annoyed that I made it black and white.

And this is a banner I made for a toy company.
If you want me to make things for you, my email is dliciw@gmail.com

I'll try my best to post each Sunday.
Thank you for the nice emails & messages.

Spring Things

Hey hotties.

In other news, I'm still blowing things up from my small sketchbook. It's soothing.
Added some duct tape to this one because, why not.
Pen, charcoal, colored pencil, duct tape. Newsprint.

The original monsters. This idea is just getting worse and worse :)

In a recent Creative Coordinator adventure, I made March Madness banners and a Social Media joke thing for the company I work for. Here are 2 of them:

If you think I'm super cool, you can email me at dliciw@gmail.com
and I'll make fun promotional materials for you.

See you next week!

Don't Be Broken Hearted

Hey sweeties!

I started "blowing up" drawings from my smaller sketchbook, into my larger one.
I almost forgot I had that sketchbook. I got it ages ago, in 2013.

My heart isn't actually broken right now. At least not romantically.
Life is just a challenge, and sometimes it hurts. But it gives me ideas!

The original marker drawing from my baby sketchbook:

See you on Sunday.

I Like Purple

Hey cuties.

Moved the angsty heart monitor in a colorful direction. Added some baby flowers and depth to the background with Photoshop. I made it look this way because I think nature is helpful when you're going through something.

Original drawing

And this is what love means to me? I'm really not sure. But I like purple.

Thanks for looking. Until next week!

Randomness

I know it's been too long.

I'm really bad at being consistent.
Life got busy. I'll make this one a little longer than the others since it's been a month.

I added to that alien drawing I told you about before. Now it looks even crazier!
More weird swirls with pen, and shadows...

 and a Photoshop After Party!

And I've still been sketching during my commutes to the city and stuff.
On a shitty traveling day, I was angry at the subway...
Pen sketch, then Photoshop
But it's how I get to where I want to be, so it's okay.

And I'm a Creative Coordinator for a social media consultancy now!
Two of our clients are gentlemen's clubs so I make scandalous banners.
Here's one I did recently for March Madness:

Until Next Time!

What My Artwork Means

Hey cuties.

I was looking back at my blog and realized that I never explained the meaning of the artwork from my first post (I had a solo exhibition before I graduated college). Titles are in the captions. I'll keep this short and sweet because I don't want to put you to sleep.

The Facade, 2013
When I'm relaxed and don't have inhibitions,
I usually do something creative to express myself.
Occasionally the relaxation involves magical things,
Which I will leave you to wonder about.

The Soul, 2013
What my soul looks like on the inside.
Not perfect, but still beautiful and hopeful.

Wishes, 2013
If you spend too much time on the secular aspects of birthdays,
you'll miss the chance to grow and love yourself, and you'll end
up with a shitty experience. That's why the cake looks this way.

America, 2013
When you focus too much on how you look,
your delicate insides can rot away.
This happens a lot in America.

Contrary to Popular Belief, 2012
I got my heart really broken once.
And other shitty things happened too.
What I believed to be true, really wasn't.
I was devastated, but I lived.

Lost Your Marbles, 2013
Even if you think you're loosing your mind,
You can still do something beautiful.
I had a breakdown during my senior year in college,
But I was still able to finish my art portfolio and graduate.

Hope, 2013
Sometimes life looks very dark,
but there is still a chance to learn a lesson and grow.
That's what I did. This one's my favorite.

...Many thanks for reading.
Until Sunday!

Underwater

Hello friends.

More sketchbook and Photoshop fun. Sometimes life gives me shitty lemons, and I just have to keep drawing. Or else.

After my drawing, I took a photo and used the brush tool(s) on Photoshop.
It's my angsty soul in icy water. Think what you may.

Here's my original drawing. What a makeover!

So yeah. And I'm going to post every Tuesday and Sunday to keep a steady routine.
I also drew a twisted castle, but I'll save that for Sunday.

Until next time hotties.

Catch a falling star

It's been longer than I planned, but I made some more sketches.

Was inspired by my loss of innocence. No, not that kind.
Being a real adult after college is pretty rough, but this is my plan for life:

I also realized that my designs are inspired by aliens. Or at least that's what a friend of mine had to say about this drawing. Thinking of making this on Photoshop / Illustrator next week:

That's all for now. Promise to make some more digital stuff when I can.
Thanks for looking cuties.

Layers of Flavor

Hey,

Played around with layers, masks, adjustments, and curves on Photoshop.

I'll post some illustrator things next.
Thanks for reading / looking.

Fun with my new sketchbook

Hey Everyone,

Was busy with life for a week or so, but I'm back as usual.
In today's episode, I meandered into Barnes and Noble and purchased an adorable sketchbook. Bargain priced, according to Mr. Noble. Lucky me.
I usually get black sketch books, but in the spirit of the new year, I decided to stop being a vampire and get something colorful. It's been a pleasure to pretend I can draw.
Here's what I made on the way home:

An angsty heart monitor.

The NYC Subway, according to me.

So, I think I'm going to make digital versions of these, on Photoshop and Illustrator,
and play around with layers and brushes and masks and things.
So I'll make something nice. Tomorrow?

Thanks for reading.
